Description & Condition
Kikuchi Guitars is a new high-end brand created by Yoshiyuki Kikuchi (and Okada International), who has earned immense trust from many professional bassists, particularly for his work with Sadowsky.
While the initial products were all one-of-a-kind custom models, the Hermes series, in contrast, can be described as mass-produced models with fixed specifications.
It might be a slight oversimplification, but the Hermes series is like the Sadowsky Metroline from the Japanese-made era, while the TYO is like the custom model.
This is the Hermes “70” Series.
It features a full-size body shape and is a model aimed at a more classic sound and playability.
The body is made of ash, and the fingerboard is maple.
It's literally a configuration that evokes the 70s.
While many custom models have chambered bodies, all models in the Hermes Series have solid bodies.
As mentioned above, the body size is full-size.
Traditional Hermes guitars featured a dinky shape, giving them a more refined look and sound. This model, however, is more traditional and dynamic.
Players who usually prefer Fender-style guitars will likely prefer this model.
It has 20 frets.
This is another difference from previous models.
While more frets generally result in a tighter, more compressed sound, this model maintains a traditional specification in this respect as well.
The pickups are the same as those used in the PASSIVE Series.
The low end is powerful, and the highs are pleasing, making it very appealing.
Furthermore, the pickup configuration adopts the Fender locations from the 1970s.
The nuance is that the midrange is more scooped, emphasizing the depth of the lows and the crispness of the highs.
Another distinctive feature is the two volume controls instead of a single volume and balancer.
This model demonstrates a consistent design philosophy down to the smallest detail.
This bass is characterized by its signature Kikuchi-style speed and responsiveness, while also possessing a more relaxed and expansive tone.
It boasts ample bass response, resulting in a rich, harmonically charged, and trebly sound.
This is a supreme instrument, a testament to Kikuchi's contemporary approach to bass making.
The frets have approximately 90% remaining.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck is in good condition.
The body and paintwork show some minor imperfections, including a 7mm paint chip near the joint, a dent near the bridge pickup, and fine scratches on the back of the body, but it is otherwise in relatively good condition.
The electronics are in good condition.
No obvious modifications were observed.
