Description & Condition

De Gier is a Dutch brand founded in 1996 by Sander De Gier.

He originally focused on creating unique and modern bass guitars, but now his products primarily emphasize Fender-style designs.

While the brand was already highly regarded, the release of the BeBop, a JB-style model, has been so successful that it has kept him completely occupied with production.

Currently, in addition to Fender styles, they also offer unique models incorporating Gibson styles.

I first encountered De Gier at the Guitar Summit held in Germany in 2022.

At first glance, its presence filled me with anticipation, and that feeling was confirmed the moment I strummed the strings.

I was so overwhelmed by the incredible quality that I began negotiations.

Initially, sales to Japan were difficult for various reasons, but after persistent negotiations, we have now been able to begin sales. (It was truly amazing, and I absolutely wanted to introduce it to Japanese musicians, so I persisted quite a bit.)

Many other brands exhibited at Guitar Summit, and I spoke with various builders.

De Gier came up several times, and it seemed their capabilities were widely known.

Several builders even mentioned ordering custom basses from De Gier.

That's how highly regarded the brand is in Europe and America.

And I myself hold it in the highest regard.

This model is their mega-hit, the BeBop 5.

Marcus Miller purchased a prototype of this model, and Richard Bona ordered one shortly after.

It continues to be highly regarded by true musicians like them.

The body is alder, and the fretboard is rosewood.

A classic combination that produces a rich midrange.

The bridge is an original style custom-ordered from ETS, and the tuning machines are GOTOH RES-O-LITE.

The color is a vibrant and beautiful Sonic Blue.

Their coloring skills are among the best in the world.

De Gier uses various pickups depending on the individual instrument, but this particular instrument uses Lollar pickups.

It's a custom-wound original model made exclusively for the BeBop5.

While it's basically a passive circuit, it also features a custom Vanderkley Fatboost function.

By slightly boosting the low frequencies and lowering the impedance, the loss of high frequencies is reduced, resulting in a nuance that feels like both the low and high frequencies are boosted simultaneously.

The sound is already complete in passive mode, but by simply pushing it a little, it seems to gain an even more powerful impact.

This minimalist yet highly effective design is sure to impress all bassists.

The third knob is the passive tone control, but the tone effect can be adjusted using a push-pull switch.

When rolling back the tone, you might want to round off the high frequencies for a warmer sound, or conversely, strongly emphasize the high-mids.

Normally, this would be adjusted by the capacitor choice, but this function allows you to easily select either.

The fourth knob is a rotary switch, which turns the Fatboost on and off.

Despite being a 5-string bass, the 3rd and 4th strings retain a pleasant, open nuance with a nice low-mid, while the 1st and 2nd strings retain a harmonically rich midrange.

And the 5th string doesn't lose that trebly JB feel, overflowing with a fresh, vibrant tone.

This is exactly what we've been looking for in a 5-string JB.

We promise you'll be impressed.
