Description & Condition

Guyatone is a Japanese manufacturer of musical instruments that supported the post-war electric guitar boom.

They have produced numerous iconic instruments with their unique ideas, and are highly regarded by collectors both domestically and internationally as "Japan Vintage" instruments.

This is the EB-9 Sharp 5 Bass, which was born in the late 1960s during the heyday of Group Sounds (GS) as a model for "Sharp Five," a leading Japanese instrumental band.

It is a historical masterpiece that is talked about as the pinnacle of so-called bizarre basses.

The body features a flowing and original offset double cutaway shape.

While reminiscent of offset models from overseas brands, the Sharp Five shape is sharper and more original, giving it a unique presence on stage.

The neck is made of maple, and the fingerboard is made of rosewood.

It has a vintage-specific grip feel that differs from modern basses, and seems to convey the playability of that era directly to the present day.

This bass features two original pickups with distinctive metal casings.
The control layout boasts a mechanical switch arrangement characteristic of bizarre instruments from that era, exuding a retro and exotic charm.

The sound is a stark contrast to modern high-fidelity basses, characterized by a thick, warm, lo-fi tone.

The combination of a full-bodied, uniquely airy low-mid range and a rounded, sweet attack produces a deeply flavorful and impactful vintage sound.

It's highly compatible with surf rock and 60s old-school ensembles, as well as players who want to stand out in modern alternative band sounds.

This is a superb Japanese vintage bass that matches styles that appreciate its precious look, etched into Japanese music history, while adding a retro and thick essence to ensembles.

The frets have approximately 70% remaining.

The truss rod is stiff, but approximately 90 degrees of movement has been confirmed.

The neck shows some upward bowing, but with the string height adjusted to 2.5mm for the G string and 3.0mm for the E string at the 12th fret, it is playable without any problems.

The body and paintwork show scattered dents and signs of use.

The electronics are in good condition.

It has been refretted.
