Description & Condition
Music Man emerged as Leo Fender's second brand and became beloved by bassists worldwide.
Many artists, including Louis Johnson and Flea, are known to use their basses. (Titles omitted)
The Stingray is a classic model that enjoys overwhelming popularity within the brand.
Alongside Fender's Jazz Bass and Precision Bass, it's safe to say it's one of the most popular basses in the world.
The Stingray's specifications differ before and after Music Man was acquired by Erni Ball; pre-acquisition models are given special treatment as "Pre-Erni" models.
The Stingray was introduced in 1976, and the specifications changed around 1980.
This particular instrument has "1983" written on the back of the headstock.
The volume pot date is 1378148, the treble pot date is 1378121, and the bass pot date is 1377919.
Based on these, we have determined it to be a 1983 model.
The Pre Ernie bass is characterized by its uncontoured body, 3-knob circuitry, 3-bolt neck joint, and string-through-body bridge.
This particular model, manufactured after the 1980s, features a 4-bolt neck joint and a string-through-body bridge.
It has a woodier, more bass-heavy sound than models with the 4-knob preamp.
However, this is only in comparison; when boosted with the preamp, it produces a powerful, punchy sound.
Boosting the bass gives it a punchy sound, while boosting the treble results in a more flamboyant, attack-oriented sound.
It's a truly appealing vintage bass.
The frets have approximately 60% remaining.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck is in good condition.
The body and paintwork show signs of use, with scattered dents and scratches.
The electronics are in good condition.
The truss rod was replaced at GIB. Accordingly, the skunk stripe has been replaced, and only the neck grip has been refinished. The 19th fret position marker has been replaced.
The nut has been replaced. The fretboard material and truss rod nut are original. The muting sponge is missing. Copper foil shielding has been applied to the cavity.
