AV Basses is a high-end Czech brand that attracted a lot of attention when Jamiroquai bassist Paul Turner started using their products.
The brand was founded in the 1990s by professional bassist Ales Vychodil.
At the time, major musical instrument manufacturers supplied numerous basses to the market, but none met his requirements.
To satisfy his own needs, he began making custom basses himself.
In the 2000s, the brand began producing OEM basses for Western boutique brands, making the world aware of its advanced manufacturing technology.
I met builder Ales at the Guitar Summit in Germany in 2019.
He has a wonderful personality, is very adventurous, and always considerate of players.
I have placed several orders with them since 2019, and they have provided me with consistent quality.
I believe this consistency not only demonstrates the brand's strength, but is also universally important.
This model was exhibited at the 2025 Guitar Summit.
Based primarily on the JB style, it actively incorporates modern specifications.
The body is made of European alder and finished in a beautiful lacquer.
The neck is made of one-piece maple with an Indian ebony fingerboard.
The fingerboard is coated and beautifully finished with great care.
The bridge and tuning machines are made by GOTOH.
The pickups are made by Swedish Lundgren.
These pickups are used by bass brands such as Stenback, and although they are a fairly niche brand, their excellent quality is highly praised by users.
The playing feel is extremely smooth, with clear pronunciation and a quick yet pleasant response that is incredibly appealing.
The string vibrations created in this way are output by high-quality pickups.
Rich and powerful overtones, strong lows, and clear highs.
They express the bass sound to the fullest, beautifully.
This is a wonderful instrument that not only fretless bassists but all bassists should try out.
