Kikuchi Guitars is a new brand created by the craftsman who founded Sadowsky Tokyo.
The guitars are crafted by Japanese luthier Yoshiyuki Kikuchi.
He moved to the United States in 1993 and gained experience at the Sadowsky Guitars NYC workshop.
After returning to Japan, he founded Sadowsky Tokyo and, together with Roger Sadowsky, has produced series such as the Metroline.
In 2019, he established Three Dots Guitars.
And in 2023, he launched Kikuchi Guitars as the culmination of his work.
The Hermes series is the brand's standard line.
While possessing almost the same basic specifications and quality as custom models, this series keeps prices down by fixing the specifications.
This particular model is the RV5.
RV stands for Alder body with Rosewood fingerboard.
The body is a two-piece Alder, the neck is Maple, and the fingerboard is Rosewood—a classic combination. The neck is reinforced with graphite and finished with a thin, matte nitrocellulose tubing.
The nut width is 46.5mm (measured), which is narrower than a typical 5-string JB.
This makes it easy to grip, even for those unfamiliar with 5-string guitars.
The pickups are DiMarzio 5HCs, the same as those on custom models.
With hum-canceling pickups positioned in the same location as 1960s JBs, it delivers a classic JB sound while suppressing noise.
The preamp is a Kikuchi Guitars original 2-band EQ dedicated to boosting.
It's designed to enhance only the necessary frequencies while preserving the instrument's natural resonance.
Pulling up the passive tone knob bypasses the preamp, allowing for passive play.
The bridge and tuners are made by Hipshot.
The string spacing at the bridge is 19mm.
The color is Olympic White.
Paired with a Tortoise Shell pickguard, it has a vintage-like look.
Weighing in at 3.995kg, it's a manageable weight for a 5-string bass.
This instrument allows you to experience the technology cultivated at Sadowsky, but under a new brand.
