Musicman started as Leo Fender's second brand and captivated many musicians with its innovative designs.
The Stingray Bass is one of the brand's most famous models.
Many artists, including Lewis Johnson and Flea, loved the Stingray Bass.
The specifications of Stingray basses before and after Music Man was acquired by Erni Ball were different, and the models before the acquisition were given special treatment as Pre Ernie basses.
The Stingray was introduced in 1976, and the specifications changed roughly in 1980.
This particular piece was manufactured in 1979 and can be said to be one of the first.
The main features are a body without contouring, a 3-knob circuit, a 3-point joint, and a back-through bridge.
It has a woodier, more lo-fi sound than the 4-knob era models with preamps.
However, that is only by comparison, and on its own, it can sound crunchy and powerful when boosted with a preamp.
The neck, made of maple, is one-piece with no lamination, and is beautifully crafted.
The remaining frets are approximately 60%.
The truss rod is a little stiff, but we have confirmed that it works about 90 degrees.
The neck is in good condition.
The condition of the body and paint surface has overall color burn and weather checking. Please check the photos as there are some age spots and stains on the paint.
The electrical system is in good condition.
The nuts have been replaced. All frets are nicely reduced and may have been grated. Some of the wiring material in the middle of the battery snap appears to have been spliced in.
The frets are reasonably worn, but it appears to have been well maintained and the neck is in very good condition and remains easy to play.
