Description & Condition

Sago is a handmade guitar brand based in Hyogo Prefecture, specializing in fully custom-made guitars that fulfill all customer requests.

They also create regular models (though most are one-offs) utilizing the knowledge and skills cultivated over many years, and these are highly regarded.

The brand enjoys strong trust from musicians, with Tabuchi-san of UNISON SQUARE GARDEN, RIO-san of Mary's Blood, and Kusakari-san of Sakanaction being among the Sago artists.

The Classic Style J is a model based on the classic JB.

This particular guitar has undergone many custom modifications.

It can be difficult to determine whether the modifications were made to order or later.

Please be aware of this beforehand.

The body is made of Thermo Alder, the neck is Maple, and the fretboard is Bird's Eye Maple—a typical Sago construction.

Thermo wood, originally used for saunas in Finland, is particularly resistant to high temperatures and humidity.

Perhaps due to this, the sound has a smooth attack and a pleasant response.

However, the range and tension of the sound are those of a modern bass, and the way it's balanced is wonderful.

The pickups are likely original.

They are single-coil pickups.

The preamp is also likely original.
The control plate has a single volume control, with the master tone and preamp built into the cavity.

It's an unusual configuration, but it could be an advantage for those who prefer to create their sound minimally using pedals or an amplifier.

The sound has a unique, robust low end characteristic of Sago basses.

While possessing a modern wide range, the sound doesn't become thin; instead, a rich and dense midrange is created, making it perfectly suited to ensembles.

The frets have approximately 90% remaining.

The truss rod is in good condition.

The neck is in good condition.

There are some minor scratches on the body and paintwork. Due to the thin lacquer finish, some paint chipping is visible.

The electronics are in good condition.

Two potentiometers have been replaced with dummies, resulting in a single volume control. A master tone control and preamp are built into the cavity.

Controls: Master Volume, Active/Passive Switch (back panel), (inside cavity) Master Tone, Treble, Bass
Nut Width: 38.8mm
Bridge String Spacing: 20.0mm
Scale Length: 34 Inch
Year of Manufacture: Unknown
Country of Manufacture: Japan

During setup, SIT Strings, favored by many professional artists, were used.

They are characterized by stable tuning and a powerful, three-dimensional sound. Please enjoy them.

GIB's craftsmen will adjust the guitar for easy playability before delivery.
