Description & Condition

Musicman was Leo Fender's second brand and was beloved by bassists worldwide.

Many artists, including Louis Johnson and Flea, are known to use the brand's basses. (Titles omitted)

The Stingray is the brand's most popular and iconic model.
It's no exaggeration to say that, alongside the Fender Jazz Bass and Precision Bass, it's one of the most popular basses in the world.

Speaking of Stingrays, the specifications differ before and after Musicman was acquired by Erni Ball, and models from before the acquisition are specially treated as Pre-Ernies.

The Stingray was introduced in 1976, and the specifications changed around 1980.

This particular instrument was manufactured in 1982 and features the transitional specifications of the 1980s and later, featuring a four-point joint.

The volume pot date is 1378108, the treble pot date is 1378226, and the bass pot date is 13780089.

Based on the above, we have determined it to be an 1982 model.

Characteristics of the Pre Ernie include a flat body, three-knob circuit, three-point joints, and a through-the-back bridge.

This one was manufactured after the 1980s, and therefore features a four-point joint and a through-the-front bridge.

It has a more woody, low-end sound than models equipped with four-knob preamps.

However, this is only in comparison; when viewed alone, it produces a crisp, powerful sound when boosted with the preamp.

Boosting the lows produces a punchy sound, while boosting the treble produces a more flashy, attacking sound.

The maple neck is beautifully crafted in one piece with no glue.

This is one of those appealing vintage basses.

These specs are a bit on the niche side, so if you're looking for one, we recommend giving it a try.

Approximately 90% of the frets remain.

The truss rod is stiff, but we have confirmed that it can move about 90 degrees.
The neck is slightly pitched high. It currently plays perfectly within the GIB standard of 2.0mm-2.5mm above the 12th fret. Two shims are included (one covers the entire neck pocket).
The body and finish have numerous scratches and dents, showing signs of age-appropriate wear.
The electronics are in good condition.
The instrument has been refretted, re-nutted, and the fingerboard repainted.
