Ken Smith is widely recognized as one of the world's premier high-end electric bass manufacturers, based in Pennsylvania, USA.
The brand is renowned for pioneering innovations such as the world's first 6-string bass and taper-core bass strings, earning its reputation as one of the true innovators in modern bass design.
This instrument features the iconic BSR body shape, one of Ken Smith's signature designs.
The BSR was developed with the needs of live-performing bassists in mind and is famously used by players such as Marcus Miller and Melvin Davis.
This particular bass is an Elite model, representing one of the higher-tier specifications in the Ken Smith lineup.
Judging from its construction, the body wings feature a five-piece combination of Maple, Walnut, and Mahogany.
The neck is a five-piece laminated construction centered around quartersawn Maple, paired with a Macassar Ebony fingerboard.
As expected from an Elite model, the body utilizes a premium five-piece construction and is finished in lacquer, reflecting the craftsmanship and materials associated with true high-end instruments.
The pickups remain original, while according to the consignor, the preamp has been upgraded to the newer Ken Smith model.
In addition, the mini switches have been professionally modified to provide 3-way Series / Tap / Parallel switching for each pickup.
At the owner's request, the strings have been left in their original condition and have not been replaced by our shop.
Tonally, the instrument is exceptionally balanced across the entire frequency range, from the Low-B to the G string, with a powerful and authoritative fundamental.
The Low-B string is particularly impressive, delivering remarkable clarity and definition while maintaining excellent presence in a full band mix.
Ken Smith's proprietary pickup and preamp design also provides an exceptionally smooth and musical EQ response, making it easy to dial in professional-quality tones for both live performance and studio recording.
