Description & Condition
Sugi is a brand founded by Mr. Sugimoto, a legend who has supported Japanese guitar making for many years.
They manufacture high-quality guitars and basses in Nagano Prefecture and are highly regarded by many musicians.
Their basses are known to be used by musicians such as Hojin Egawa and Mike Porcaro of TOTO.
This model is the NB5, Sugi's flagship model.
While the regular NB series uses a bolt-on joint, this model uses a set-neck joint.
The body top is made of Maverick Quilted Maple, and the body back is made of Ash.
The beautiful, captivating wood grain is striking.
The neck is a laminated type with a maple core.
This technique of laminating multiple pieces of wood to create the neck reduces left-right and individual differences, resulting in greater stability.
The fretboard is made of Cocobolo, a familiar material for the brand.
The pickups are original.
The set-neck joint provides a smooth attack to the sound.
The neck is built very sturdily, and this quality greatly contributes to its high playability.
The tone is clear, tight overall, and has a pleasant, rich harmonic resonance.
Looks, playability, and sound—everything about this is top-notch.
The frets have approximately 85% remaining.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck is in good condition.
The body and paintwork show some minor scratches and small dents.
The electronics are in good condition.
All potentiometers have been replaced with CTS parts. Accordingly, all wiring has also been replaced. The capacitors have been replaced with Orange Drop capacitors. A GOTOH Drop D tuner is installed. The tuning machines for the 2nd and 3rd strings are slightly stiff, but there are no operational problems.
Some of the screws securing the bridge pickup have been replaced. The screws on the truss rod cover have also been replaced.
