Sugi is a Japanese handmade brand with a workshop in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture.
The representative, Mr. Sugimoto, served as the head of R&D at FujiGen for many years.
He is also known for his involvement in the development of Steve Vai's JEM777.
He started his own brand, Sugi, in 2002, pursuing the highest level of handcrafted quality without any compromise.
His technical skills are highly regarded, and he has also worked on high-end models for famous manufacturers both domestically and internationally.
This is a 2023 NB5E.
It's a Sugi 5-string bass.
The first thing that catches the eye is the Burl Poplar 1P top wood.
The intricately interwoven grain is beautiful, and you can fully appreciate its appearance.
The back is Black Limba 2P, the neck is Maple 3P, and the fingerboard is Ebony.
This guitar features the warm mid-low frequencies of a Black Limba pickup combined with the tight attack of an Ebony fingerboard.
It's equipped with two Sugi Original JJ-type pickups.
The controls are a passive configuration with two volume and one tone controls, allowing you to fully appreciate the unique characteristics of the wood.
The nut width is 43.0mm, and the string spacing at the bridge is 18.0mm.
