Sago is a handmade guitar brand based in Hyogo, specializing in fully custom-made instruments that fulfill every customer request.
Their regular models—though most are essentially one-offs—are also highly regarded, crafted using the knowledge and skills honed over many years.
Sago is a brand deeply trusted by musicians.
Artists like Mr. Tabuchi of UNISON SQUARE GARDEN, Mr. RIO of Mary's Blood, and Mr. Kusakari of Sakanaction are listed as Sago artists.
This is the original Defi model, custom-ordered with a 32-35 inch multi-scale specification.
Notably, it features the generous use of rare woods.
The neck is a 9-piece laminate of Maple and Wenge.
The fingerboard is made from the rare Jacaranda (Brazilian Rosewood).
It features a through-neck construction, with Keyaki used for the body wing back and Claro Walnut for the top.
Claro Walnut is a wood used in high-end furniture, boasting breathtaking beauty.
Two original humbucker-type pickups are installed.
A mini switch allows individual switching between series, tap, and parallel modes, enabling versatile sound shaping.
Complementing this is an original 4-band EQ preamp.
It offers a relatively natural response, preserving the instrument's inherent character even when boosted.
Hardware is equally meticulous, featuring GOTOH GB528 tuning machines and a Hip Shot Solo bridge.
The string-to-string pitch is set narrowly at 16.5mm, offering exceptional playability, especially for fingerstyle.
This narrower neck width is another key feature made possible by this setup.
True to its multi-scale design, the sound features strong fundamental tones and a balanced response across the entire frequency range.
The low end extends cleanly like a piano, powerfully supporting the ensemble.
The ability to specify detailed specifications to match user needs is unique to Sago.
And the seamless, beautiful execution of these specifications is possible precisely because Sago shapes players' ideals daily.
This instrument fully showcases their high technical prowess.
Approximately 80% of the frets remain.
The truss rod is stiff but confirmed to move approximately 90 degrees.
The neck shows slight bowing, but it plays perfectly fine with our standard string height setup: G string 2.0mm to E string 2.5mm.
The body and finish show no noticeable scratches and remain in beautiful condition.
The electronics are in good working order.
No obvious modifications were found.
