Description & Condition
Gibson is the king of the guitar world, having produced countless legendary instruments.
While their guitars are especially popular, their basses—with their distinctive looks and rock sound—are also hugely popular.
This model is a 1974 Ripper Bass.
I believe Gene Simmons also played a Ripper Bass.
It delivers that quintessential Gibson rock sound, with a thick, punchy low-to-midrange presence.
The rotary switch allows selection of the following pickup configurations:
1. Neck + Bridge (Parallel/In-Phase)
2. Neck
3. Neck + Bridge (Parallel/Out-of-Phase)
4. Neck + Bridge (Series)
Note: The switch configuration differs from standard specifications, so the wiring may have been modified.
Approximately 70% of frets remain.
The truss rod is stiff but confirmed to move about 90 degrees.
The neck exhibits slight bowing upward. However, it is playable with no issues after adjusting the string height at the 12th fret to 2.5mm for the G string and 3.0mm for the E string.
The body and finish show scattered dents, scratches, and weather checking.
Damage is visible on the string bushings.
There are repair marks on two pickguard screw holes.
The bridge cover is missing.
Electronics: The middle range control is non-functional.
The switch configuration differs from standard specifications, so the wiring may have been modified.
The pickguard has been replaced.
The jack has been replaced with a Switchcraft #11.
