| Music Man was Leo Fender's second brand and was beloved by bassists worldwide. This continued even after it was acquired by Ernieball, and it's now widely embraced by bassists today. The Stingray is the brand's overwhelmingly popular staple model. It's no exaggeration to say that, alongside the Fender Jazz Bass and Precision Bass, it's one of the most popular basses in the world. This is a Special model, so it has some slightly special specs. The neck is made of roasted maple. Originally developed using Finnish technology as wood for building saunas, it's characterized by its high temperature treatment, which evaporates the moisture and oils within the wood, resulting in high stability even in hot and humid environments. The sound is more refined and richer. Around the time the Stingray Special was released, the pickups and preamp were completely redesigned. The pickups use neodymium magnets, which result in a powerful, wide-ranging sound. While maintaining the classic Stingray tone, it now fits better with modern ensembles. The preamp has been changed from its previous 9V operation to 18V. This provides ample headroom and aims for a clearer tone. The 3-band EQ allows for versatile sound, covering a wide range of tones, from a crisp sound that's great for slapping to a warm vintage tone. When a single manufacturer handles everything from the pickups to the preamp, the manufacturer's intentions are clearly reflected in the sound, and, for better or worse, the result is something very unique. I personally like this revamp, feeling that it is extremely refined and well-finished. The tuning machines are redesigned, using lightweight open-gear types. It goes without saying that the balance when you hold it is excellent, and I think there are positive changes in the sound that make the most of the more powerful electronics. The control plate and bridge also seem lighter. Personally, I like the vintage three-knob Stingrays, and to be honest, I didn't think the current model could be compared to them in a negative way. However, considering this revamped Stingray Special, I've realized that this thinking is incorrect. If you're also looking for a Stingray, but only want something vintage or classic, this is an ambitious model that I would definitely recommend trying out. Approximately 95% of the frets remain. The truss rod is in good condition. The neck shows slight signs of being too high. The string height is 2.0mm-2.5mm above 12th fret, which is the GIB standard, and can vibrate depending on how hard you pick. The body and paint are in excellent condition with no noticeable scratches. The electrical system is in good condition. No obvious modifications were found.
