Black Smoker is a handmade brand launched in 2016 by the BLACK CLOUD workshop in Azumino City, Nagano Prefecture.
Instruments crafted by two highly experienced builders are favored by numerous professional musicians, including Shunsuke Ochi, Futoshi Sakai, and Ren Yamamoto.
This model is a 4-string JB type from the Standard Series.
The body is Alder, the fingerboard is Rosewood, a classic configuration.
From assembly to finish, it gives the impression of being meticulously crafted, as expected from a domestic brand.
The sound it produces has a well-rounded character, giving an open impression where the entire instrument seems to vibrate.
Overall, it's modern with high-quality details, making it appealing to many bassists.
It's a gem I highly recommend trying out.
Approximately 80% of the frets remain.
The truss rod is somewhat stiff but confirmed to move about 90 degrees.
The neck has a slight bow upward, but it plays perfectly fine at 2.5–3.0mm.
The body and finish show scattered small dents.
The electronics are in good condition.
No obvious modifications were found.
