Stem is a brand produced by Sago New Material Guitars, a handmade brand based in the Kansai region.
By fixing the specs and shape, they produce models that allow you to feel the high quality of Sago while keeping costs down.
This is the JMB, which is based on the Jazzmaster.
The body is made of alder and the fingerboard is made of rosewood, a classic wood construction.
While the basic body shape is a JM type, the horns are slightly extended to improve balance when held, and the deep cutaway makes it easier to access the high positions.
It's a design that's firmly rooted in the bass.
The finish is Sago's signature Thin lacquer.
The pickups are original L(x) JMB-4.
While the looks are typical JM types, the inside is a split-coil configuration.
It has a style similar to the PP arrangement that has been gaining popularity in recent years.
One thing worth noting is that even on its own, it produces a noiseless, thick sound.
The neck pickup has a fat, open sound typical of bass pickups, and the bridge pickup is also thick, making it powerful enough to stand up to an ensemble on its own.
And yet, when mixed, it produces a crisp, scooped mid-range sound, so it's no wonder it's so highly acclaimed.
Its eye-catching, cool looks are complemented by a bass-like, universal sound.
It's a wonderful instrument.
