Sire shot to fame as the brand that released a bass supervised by Marcus Miller.
The quality of the guitars and basses they manufacture is exceptionally high, and they are highly regarded even by those who aren’t Marcus Miller fans.
This is their new model, the Z7-4.
As you can see, it’s a model inspired by the Musicman Stingray.
The neck has a lovely vintage feel to it, doesn’t it?
Although the Z3 model has also been released, the Z7 features an additional pickup and a preamp that allows for more precise adjustments.
The body is made of Swamp Ash for the NT color, and Alder for the other models.
The fingerboard varies by model, using Roasted Maple, Maple, or Ebony.
The neck material also varies: Roasted Maple for the NT color, and Maple for the other models.
The pickups are a Sire Premium J+MM set.
These can be freely mixed using the balancer.
The preamp features a mid-frequency control, with controls including Volume/Tone, Blender, Treble, Middle/Freq, and Bass (passive/active switch).
Since the original Musicman Stingray doesn’t offer a passive option, I think many people view this as a positive feature.
The finish on the fingerboard and frets is outstanding.
While this is to be expected in this price range, the build quality is high enough to hold its own even when compared to higher-end models.
The nut width is 42mm, which follows the Musicman Stingray style and is slightly wider than average.
The sound delivers exactly what you’d expect: crisp, powerful highs and tight lows.
Until now, there haven’t been many options in this category, but I feel a fantastic replica has finally arrived. I highly recommend it.
