Sire rose to fame as a brand releasing basses supervised by Marcus Miller.
The quality of the guitars and basses they produce is extremely high, and they are highly regarded even by people outside of Marcus' fan base.
This is a guitar based on a jazz bass.
The body is alder and the fingerboard is ebony, a slightly more modern design.
The finish of the fingerboard and frets is excellent.
Of course, at this price point, the quality is comparable to instruments in higher price ranges.
The original pickups are paired with an active circuit, in keeping with Marcus's style.
These are called the Marcus Super-J Revolution Set and the Marcus Heritage-3 with Middle Frequency Control.
The controls are quite extensive - volume, tone, balance, bass, middle, mid frequency, treble, and an active/passive switch - but they are well-organized and easy to understand for bassists.
It features a tight yet powerful sound that is rich in overtones and has just the right amount of compression.
This is a model that is definitely worth trying out for anyone looking for a Marcus-esque sound, but also for anyone simply looking for a high-quality jazz bass.
