HEX Guitars is a brand based in South Korea that specializes in products spanning the entry-level to mid-range price points.
They own their own factory in Indonesia and handle manufacturing themselves. This sets them apart from brands that typically rely on OEM production.
Because they don't outsource to other factories and the boss himself gets involved on the factory floor, they produce guitars of unexpectedly high quality for their price point.
The Y Series takes inspiration from classical guitar styling, finished in a more modern form.
The body back uses Indonesian Mahogany, while the top features Sitka Spruce.
The slimmer body size should feel familiar even to those accustomed to playing electric guitars.
The neck is Roasted Maple, with an Indian Rosewood fingerboard.
Roasted wood, also known as thermo wood, is a new material popularized by Japan's Sago New Material Guitars.
Originally a Finnish technology, it was developed for wood used in saunas.
The high-temperature treatment causes moisture and oils within the wood to evaporate, resulting in exceptional stability even in high-humidity environments.
Sonically, it imparts a more refined and rich tone.
The neck shape is slim and features a neutral C-profile.
The finish is satin.
It is equipped with an LR Baggs Element Bronze VTC pickup.
