Anaconda Basses is a UK-based bass brand that has gained exceptional recognition in recent years, particularly in Europe and North America.
The Ultra J4 Essence, released around 2019, won an award from the prestigious bass media outlet (Bass Guitar Magazine). Following this success, the Ultra J5 Essence and Ultra J6 Essence were released in 2020.
In 2023, all models were completely redesigned to achieve even higher quality.
The body is made of alder, and the neck and fingerboard are made of maple.
The scale length is 34.5 inches, similar to the F-Bass BN5.
A scale length 0.5 inches longer than usual is used, particularly to achieve tightness in the low B string, resulting in a less loose nuance.
Yet, the G string doesn't become too tight, maintaining a flexible nuance.
The slightly thicker C-shaped neck is designed to become a flatter D-shape as you move up to the higher frets.
This allows for smooth changes in thumb position, and the shaping is organic and meaningful, rather than simply being uniform.
The neck incorporates two carbon fiber rods for increased strength.
While a neck that's too strong can sometimes cause the low B and E strings to become unruly, this seems to be resolved by the scale length.
The pickups, named AC5-TN, are an original design.
They offer a moderate amount of compression while maintaining a wide range and rich midrange.
The hum-canceling design and low noise are also major advantages.
The preamp paired with the AC5-TN pickups is the original AC3-TZ Active 3-Band Preamp.
Controls include Volume/Passive Tone, Balancer, Middle (push-pull frequency band switching 250/800Hz), Treble/Bass.
This preamp has a very unique and high-quality character. This bass delivers the expansive low end, crisp midrange, and punchy treble that bassists demand.
It's well-designed overall, exhibiting superior performance at a high level.
