Ulrich Bass Design is a small, handmade bass brand from Germany.
The builder, Florian Hertzsch, is also a violin maker.
A key characteristic of this brand is its refined balance of modern basses, incorporating a wide range of classical techniques and Spanish guitar construction.
I've met Florian many times in Germany, and he's a truly wonderful person.
Young, intelligent, and incredibly talented, I believe he's a leader in the next generation of the guitar industry.
The Retro57 is a model that takes the tone of a classic P-bass as its motif, but finishes it in a modern style.
The body is made of ultra-lightweight Honduras Cedar.
The fingerboard and neck are made of maple.
It features Häussel P old-style pickups.
The crisp, vibrant string vibrations are vividly reproduced, demonstrating the high performance of these pickups.
The tuning machines and bridge are GOTOH, ensuring top-notch quality.
The control panel is held in place by magnets and can be easily removed by hand.
The headstock is very unique.
This incorporates the structure of a Spanish guitar.
This style was perfected by Antonio de Torres in the 1800s, and Florian stated that it is the best and clearly superior style for Ulrich Bass Design.
While it sounds like a typical P-bass, it has a more natural, almost acoustic bass-like nuance, reminiscent of an acoustic bass played through a high-quality piezo pickup.
The lack of ornamentation and the fast tempo might make it slightly difficult to play in some ways, but the sheer joy of playing the bass more than makes up for it.
The frets have approximately 90% remaining.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck is in good condition.
The body and paintwork show some dents, scratches, and paint chips, but due to the aged finish, it's impossible to determine if these were later acquired.
The electronics are in good condition.
No obvious modifications were observed.
