Black Smoker is a handmade brand launched in 2016 by BLACK CLOUD, a workshop in Azumino City, Nagano Prefecture.
The instruments, crafted by two highly experienced builders, are supported by numerous professional musicians, including Shunsuke Ochi, Futoshi Sakai, and Ren Yamamoto.
This model is the BETA J5, a 5-string passive JB-type bass from the STANDARD SERIES.
The body is made of alder, and the neck and fingerboard are made of roasted maple.
The pickups are original.
GOTOH hardware is used.
The sound is based on the rich midrange characteristic of an alder body, with the clear attack and excellent projection provided by the roasted maple fingerboard.
In addition to the straightforward response typical of a passive JB-type bass, it offers the punch and open playability of a 4-string bass despite being a 5-string.
This is a highly practical instrument that naturally cuts through in an ensemble.
The frets have approximately 80% remaining.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck is in good condition.
The body and paintwork show overall minor scratches and dents, and the pickguard has overall scratches that appear to have been caused by picking.
The electronics are in good condition.
No obvious modifications were observed.
