Sugi is a brand founded by Mr. Sugimoto, a legend who has supported Japanese guitar making for many years.
They manufacture high-quality guitars and basses in Nagano Prefecture and are highly regarded by many musicians.
Their basses are known to be used by musicians such as Hojin Egawa and Mike Porcaro of TOTO.
This model is the NB5, Sugi's flagship model.
The wood was identified from the model name on the warranty.
The body top is Spalted Maple, and the body back is Alder.
The neck is a laminated type with a Maple core.
This technique of laminating multiple pieces of wood to create the neck reduces left-right and individual differences, resulting in greater stability.
The fingerboard is Macassar Ebony.
The pickup is a Sugi SB-85WJP.
It is a powered type that outputs a powerful sound.
The controls are a simple passive circuit with neck pickup volume, bridge pickup volume, and master tone. Despite having 24 frets, this guitar features a distinctive sound with an open midrange that isn't overly tight.
This seems to have a positive impact on both fingerstyle and slap playing.
The frets have approximately 70% remaining.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck is in good condition. There is a small paint chip of about 0.5mm on the back of the headstock.
The body and paintwork show some dents and scratches. There is some paint chipping near the backplate.
The electronics are in good condition.
The jack was faulty and was replaced by GIB.
