Description & Condition
Description & Condition
Ken Smith Design (KSD) is a brand developed under the supervision of Ken Smith.
This is the Proto J 5, a 5-string model based on the traditional JB style.
The body is made of alder, and the fingerboard is made of rosewood.
This is a classic combination that produces a rich and sustained midrange.
The pickups appear to be original.
While retaining the nuances of a vintage JB, it has a wide range and clear output, covering the wide tonal range of a multi-string bass very well.
The preamp is a 2-band EQ made by G&B Pickup, a Korean manufacturer of guitar and bass parts.
From tight lows that support the ensemble to clear highs that shine in slap bass, it allows for intuitive and speedy sound shaping.
The sound is characterized by a full and robust midrange and a punchy attack.
Even on a Low B note, the tone remains clear and defined, delivering a range of sounds from thick grooves with fingerpicking to gritty rock tones with a pick, meeting the player's demands perfectly.
This is a highly refined instrument that allows you to experience Ken Smith's high-end bass design philosophy at an accessible price point.
This instrument has undergone precise fret leveling using PLEK.
All frets are perfectly level, theoretically resulting in a stable tone without buzz.
Approximately 60% of the frets remain.
The truss rod is stiff, but approximately 90 degrees of movement has been confirmed.
The neck is in good condition.
The body and paintwork show signs of use, with dents and scratches overall. There is some tarnishing on the metal parts.
The electronics are in good condition.
No obvious modifications were observed.
