Black Smoker is a handmade brand launched in 2016 by BLACK CLOUD, a workshop in Azumino City, Nagano Prefecture.
The instruments, crafted by two highly experienced builders, are supported by numerous professional musicians, including Shunsuke Ochi, Futoshi Sakai, and Ren Yamamoto.
This model is a 4-string JB model from the high-end TRAD MASTER series.
The "W" at the end of the model name stands for "Wide."
It features a wide neck of approximately 42mm, commonly found on PB-type basses.
The body is made of alder, and the fingerboard is Indian rosewood.
A classic combination with a rich midrange.
All finishes are lacquer, and a beautiful aging process has been applied.
The sound and playability also give a traditional impression.
The pickups are original.
The wide neck contributes to a full low end, which should be useful for positioning the bass in an ensemble.
Overall, it's a modern bass with high-quality details, plus a vintage-like, open playing feel.
