Description & Condition

De Gier is a Dutch brand founded in 1996 by Sander De Gier.

He originally focused on creating unique and modern bass guitars, but now his products primarily emphasize Fender-style designs.

While the brand was already highly regarded, the release of the BeBop, a JB-style model, has been so successful that it has kept him completely occupied with production.

Currently, in addition to Fender styles, they also offer unique models incorporating Gibson styles.

I first encountered De Gier at the Guitar Summit held in Germany in 2022.

At first glance, its presence filled me with anticipation, and that feeling was confirmed the moment I played it.

I was so overwhelmed by the incredible quality that I began negotiations.

Initially, sales to Japan were difficult for various reasons, but after persistent negotiations, we have now been able to begin sales. (It was truly amazing, so I really wanted to introduce it to Japanese musicians, and I persisted for quite some time.)

Many other brands exhibited at Guitar Summit, and I spoke with various builders.

De Gier came up several times, and it seemed their capabilities were widely known.

Several builders even mentioned ordering custom basses from De Gier.

That's how highly regarded the brand is in Europe and America.

And I myself hold them in the highest regard as well.

This model is their mega-hit, the BeBop 5.

Marcus Miller purchased a prototype of this model, and Richard Bona ordered one shortly after.

It continues to be highly regarded by true musicians like them.

The body is alder, and the fretboard is rosewood, a classic combination of woods.

The bridge is a custom-ordered original style from ETS, and the tuners are Hipshot.

The color is Dakota Red.

It uses nitrocellulose lacquer as the paint and is finished with a relic treatment. The excellent atmosphere created by the coloring and relicing is one of De Gier's defining characteristics.

The finish is truly beautiful, and I feel their coloring skills are among the best in the world.

De Gier uses various pickups depending on the individual instrument, but this one has a Lindy Fralin pickup.

While it's basically a passive circuit, it features a custom Vanderkley Fatboost function.

This slightly boosts the low frequencies, and by lowering the impedance, it reduces high-frequency loss, resulting in a nuance that feels like both the low and high frequencies are boosted simultaneously.

This is quite outstanding; it was a real eye-opener.

The sound is already perfect in its passive form, but adding just a little bit more gives it an even more powerful punch.

This minimalist yet highly effective design is sure to impress every bassist.

The third knob is the passive tone control, but the push-pull switch allows you to adjust how the tone is affected.

When rolling back the tone, you might want to round off the high frequencies for a warmer sound, or conversely, strongly emphasize the high-mids.

Normally, this would be adjusted by the capacitor choice, but this function makes it easy to select either.

The fourth knob is a rotary switch that turns the Fatboost on and off.

Despite being a 5-string bass, the 3rd and 4th strings retain an open nuance, while the 1st and 2nd strings don't lose their sweet midrange.

And the 5th string retains that gritty, trebly JB feel, overflowing with a fresh, vibrant tone.

This is exactly what we've been looking for in a 5-string JB.

We promise you'll be impressed.

The frets have approximately 80% remaining.

The truss rod is in good condition.

The neck is in good condition.

The body and paintwork show dents, scratches, and paint peeling, but due to the aged finish, it's impossible to determine if these are later-accidental.

The electronics are in good condition.

No obvious modifications were observed.

These high-quality strings maximize the instrument's performance and character, so please enjoy them as well.
