Description & Condition

Music Man emerged as Leo Fender's second brand and became beloved by bassists worldwide.

Many artists, including Louis Johnson and Flea, are known to use their basses. (Titles omitted)

The Stingray is a classic model that enjoys overwhelming popularity within the brand.

Alongside Fender's Jazz Bass and Precision Bass, it's safe to say it's one of the most popular basses in the world.

The Stingray's specifications differ before and after Music Man was acquired by Erni Ball; pre-acquisition models are given special treatment as "Pre-Erni" models.

The Stingray was introduced in 1976, and its specifications changed around 1980.

This particular instrument was manufactured in 1982 and features the transitional specifications of the 1980s and later models, including a four-bolt neck joint.

The volume pot date is 1378108, the treble pot date is 1378226, and the bass pot date is 13780089.

Based on the above, we determined it was manufactured in 1982.

Pre-Ernie basses are characterized by a body without contouring, a 3-knob circuit, a 3-bolt neck joint, and a string-through-body bridge.

This particular model, manufactured after the 1980s, features a 4-bolt neck joint and a string-through-body bridge.

It has a woodier, more bass-heavy sound than models with 4-knob preamps.

However, this is only in comparison; when viewed alone, boosting the preamp produces a powerful, punchy sound.

Boosting the bass gives it a punchy sound, while boosting the treble results in a more flamboyant, attack-oriented sound.

The maple neck is a beautifully crafted one-piece construction without any joints.

It's a truly attractive vintage bass.

These specifications are somewhat niche, so if you're looking for one, please give it a try.

The frets have approximately 90% remaining.

The truss rod is stiff, but we've confirmed it moves about 90 degrees.

The neck shows a slight upward bow. Currently, it's playable within the GIB standard of 2.0mm-2.5mm at the 12th fret. Two shims are installed (one covering the entire neck pocket).
The body and paintwork have numerous scratches and dents, showing wear commensurate with its age.
The electronics are in good condition.
The guitar has been refretted, re-nutted, and the fretboard refinished.
