Description & Condition
Sire rose to fame as a brand releasing bass guitars supervised by Marcus Miller.
The quality of the guitars and basses they produce is extremely high, and they are highly regarded even by people outside of Marcus fandom.
This model is based on the '70s JB.
We determined it to be a 1st Generation model based on the serial number.
The headstock logo says ""V8,"" but we've determined it to be a V7 because the V8 wasn't included in the 1st Generation lineup and the neck is maple, a V7 specification.
The body is ash, and the neck and fingerboard are maple.
A 1970s specification combination.
The pickups are original.
The preamp is original.
They're called the Marcus Super-J Revolution Set and Marcus Heritage-3 with Middle Frequency Control.
The controls are a bit long (volume, tone, balancer, bass, middle, mid frequency, treble, and active/passive switch), but they're well-organized for bassists.
It features a powerful sound that's tight yet rich in overtones, with just the right amount of compression.
This model is a must-try for anyone looking for a Marcus-esque sound, as well as anyone simply looking for a high-quality jazz bass.
Approximately 80% of the frets remain.
The truss rod is stiff but has been confirmed to move about 90 degrees.
The neck shows slight high-rise. It is adjusted to 2.0mm-2.5mm per GIB standard, and sticking may occur from the 17th fret onwards depending on how hard you play.
The body and paint show scattered dents and scratches.
As for the electrical system, there is a slight scratching noise near the center detent of the balancer pot.
The headstock logo says V8, but based on the specifications we determine it to be a V7.
