Description & Condition
Beyond is an effects pedal brand founded in 2019 by engineers from SONY.
Their first creation, the Beyond Tube Booster, was the talk of the town, garnering over 4 million yen in crowdfunding support.
BTB was designed as a pure tube booster, eliminating any amplification elements such as ICs and FETs.
Therefore, the output impedance was not lowered.
The Beyond Tube Buffer + was designed to operate as a buffer rather than a booster.
It has a wide range like a modern effect pedal, so it does not lose the super low frequencies and beautiful presence of multi-string basses.
As with the BTB, just by passing the Buffer+ through the tube, the density of the low to mid range is greatly increased, and a unique tube nuance such as a slight compression and saturation feeling can be obtained.
In comparison, the Buffer+ seems to have a wider upper range.
This is probably due to the lower impedance of the outputs.
I think the product is intended to bring tube-like nuance to modern digital and transistor amps, but I would recommend using it as a base.
In many situations, bassists have to use a DI line sound as their main source of sound.
In such cases, I think it is not uncommon for bassists to feel “hard to play” or “unsatisfied” because of the lack of fat nuance that is typical of amps.
In such situations, Beyond's Booster and Buffer will compensate for the warmth and fatness that cannot be obtained from a line or small, lightweight amp.
For the tubes, the Electro Harmonix 12AU7EH is used, prioritizing sound over cost.
Other electronic parts were selected with the highest priority on performance, without any cost-cutting that would impair functionality or reduce quality.
Due to the nature of this product as a buffer, it is assumed that it is always used with the ON position.
Therefore, the footswitch operates as if the output is switched between OUTPUT and TUNER OUT.
The volume knob is located on the side, eliminating the need for a knob.
The preset volume is mounted inside, so it is nice to be able to set the necessary level according to the situation.
We recommend the Beyond Tube Booster for old-style bassists and this Beyond Tube Buffer + for modern-style bassists.
There are some minor scratches and scuffs. Operation is good.
