Description & Condition
Sadowsky is a high-end brand based in New York with top musicians like Marcus Miller and Will Lee among its clientele.
While Metroline guitars were previously manufactured in Japan, production has now moved to the Warwick factory in Germany.
When Roger Sadowsky visited GIB Yokohama, we discussed manufacturing at Warwick at length.
When searching for a factory, his key requirement was maintaining quality while producing large volumes of guitars and basses.
He mentioned it was quite a challenge to find a factory that matched this requirement.
He also expressed great satisfaction with the manufacturing at Warwick.
Since the Japanese-made Metroline models were highly regarded, there were some concerns about quality. However, seeing the actual instruments, such concerns seem largely unfounded.
Furthermore, the Japanese-made Metroline incorporated many unique design elements.
However, the Warwick-made Metroline closely follows NYC specifications and is crafted based on Roger's input.
For instance, the body features chambered construction like the NYC model, and all bridges are made from brass.
These differences exist between the old and new Metroline models, and the newer ones seem to be received relatively positively.
Furthermore, all Warwick-made Sadowsky guitars imported into Japan undergo Yamano Gakki's rigorous inspection.
Given that Yamano Gakki handles the import and sales of Fender and Gibson, and has built those into strong brands, their quality control is also applied. This further ensures that the Metroline models distributed in Japan truly possess outstanding quality.
This model is a modern design featuring a wide 24-fret range.
While the soapbar pickup version is popular, this model, which retains more of the JB vibe, is also highly sought after.
The body features chambered construction, making it exceptionally lightweight.
When asked about the benefits of chambering, Roger explained that the light weight is something musicians appreciate, and the resulting easy-playing feel is definitely a positive.
The hum-canceling type pickup, highly regarded by many musicians, and the powerful preamp deliver a robust sound even with low string action.
Overall, it's a product with significant potential.
As a side note, I asked Roger why the 24-fret MS model uses a soapbar pickup.
He explained that the soapbar is used on the 24-fret model because maintaining distance between the neck pickup and fingerboard tightens the sound, so a warmer pickup is used to balance it.
However, on the VJ model, which also has 24 frets, the pickup positions are the same as the JB, so the pickup types themselves are also the same as the JB.
Both the VJ and MS are excellent designs, so please compare them and choose the one that fits you perfectly.
