YAMAHA has been supporting the Japanese guitar industry since the dawn of Japanese guitar making, and is, so to speak, the Gibson of Japan.
The company has several models that are called masterpieces, and this model is a gem from the BB series, which is one of the most highly acclaimed.
The BB series includes the BB3000, which is well known and highly regarded, but this is the BB X. The BB3000 was a through-neck joint model.
The BB3000 uses a through-neck joint, but the BB X uses a bolt-on joint.
The sound is tight, as is typical of Yamaha, but the touch is light, giving the impression of an easy, good sound without more effort than traditional Fender models.
The strings resonate well even with a light touch, allowing for stress-free playing.
It has been converted to fretless.
The bolt-on seems to give a stronger sound with more attack than a through-neck.
The truss rod action is a little stiff, but we have confirmed that it works about 90°.
The neck is in good condition, with some forward wave and high rise on the low fret side.
The current string height at the 12th fret is 2.0mm on the 1st string side and 2.5mm on the 4th string side.
Scratches are visible overall. The back of the head shows some splotches due to the age of the paint.
There are several cracks in the paint from the fret line to the grip.
The condition of the body and painted surface shows scratches and parts are dull and rusty.
The electrical system is in good condition.
The guitar has been fretless.
The nut has been replaced along with the fretless conversion.
