Don Grosh is an American guitar brand founded in 1993.
He originally worked at Valley Arts, and is a top guitar builder who has made a name for himself working with top musicians such as Larry Carlton and Lee Sklar. (Titles omitted)
This model is a J5, modeled after the 5-string JB.
The body is made of alder and the fingerboard is made of rosewood, a classic wood construction.
The hardware is all HIPSHOT.
The fingerboard shape, neck grip, and joint with the body are all well-defined, resulting in smooth playability.
The included spec sheet lists the pickups as Lindy Fralin.
However, there are some differences from standard Lindy Fralin pickups, such as the gray bobbin and coil protection.
These pickups may have been custom-made by Don Grosh or may have been replaced.
The preamp is an Aguilar OBP-1.
The sound is powerful and tight.
And yet, it retains an appealing treble overtone.
The tight bass and crisp sound characteristic of JB are sure to be a hit, especially for players of modern black music.
All in all, it was a fantastic guitar.
It may not be well known because there aren't many of them in circulation, but it's a top-notch brand.
Approximately 55% of the frets remain.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck is slightly tilted up. The GIB standard string height is 2.0mm-2.8mm above 12th fret, and depending on the strength of the pick, there may be some buzzing in the higher positions.
The body and paint show signs of use, with lacquer fading, dents, and scratches.
The electrical system is in good condition.
The neck and bridge pickup volume pots have been replaced with current CTS models.
