Sugi is a brand created by Mr. Sugimoto, a legendary figure who has supported Japanese guitar making for many years.
They manufacture high-quality guitars and basses in Nagano Prefecture, earning high praise from many musicians.
The NB is known as their flagship model and is favored by the likes of Hojin Egawa and Mike Porcaro of TOTO.
This is a very rare model equipped with only one humbucking pickup.
The scale length is 33 inches.
The body top is made of heavily grained poplar, and the back is alder.
The neck is a laminate type with an Aqua Timber maple core, and the fingerboard is cocobolo.
The bridge and tuners are GOTOH, but they are not standard.
They were custom-made by Sugi and optimized for this bass.
Although this bass only has one pickup, it offers three wiring options: parallel, series, and split.
Having simple yet practical options is a great idea.
Despite having 24 frets, it has a distinctive sound that feels open without being too tight.
This characteristic seems to have a positive impact on both fingerplay and slapping.
With a short scale and humbucking pickups, the sound has a strong mid-range presence.
While it has a wide range and modern playability, it is still based on traditional elements.
As such, it will be a valuable ally for bassists who faithfully fulfill the role required of the bass in an ensemble.
Approximately 80% of the frets remain.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck is in good condition.
There are minor scratches and dents on the body and paint.
The electrical system is in good condition.
No obvious modifications were found.
Controls: Volume, Pickup Wiring Switch (Parallel/Series/Split). When in Split mode, the pole pieces for the 3rd and 4th strings on the neck and the 1st and 2nd strings on the bridge operate.
