Limetone Audio is an effects brand that has released many excellent products and is trusted by top professionals.

They have released many fantastic effect pedals, but one that is particularly highly regarded as a masterpiece is the distortion pedal "JACKAL."

In a video with Limetone Audio's Imanishi, which was previously posted on our YouTube channel, we discovered that the JACKAL also produces a great sound when used with bass.

This model was inspired by this and is the bass version of the JACKAL, the "JACKAL MIDNIGHT."

To put it simply, this is an excellent product that I would recommend to anyone looking for a thick drive sound like Billy Sheehan.

The sound is different from that of Sans amps or Dark Glass amps. Rather than cutting the mids to create a sharp, flashy sound, it feels thicker with a stronger push.

Even at high GAIN settings, the sound image does not swell too much, resulting in a more juicy, detailed distortion.

In these respects, it feels similar to the RAT and Russian Muff EQs favored by bassists.

What I find particularly unique about the whole setup is the EQ design.

It's a three-band EQ with bass, mid, and treble, but the bass and treble feel more centered than a typical bass preamp.

As a result, turning it up feels like the sound is pushed quite blatantly.

Increasing the bass makes the low-mids more powerful, while increasing the treble strengthens the frequency range where the string attack is most noticeable.

Generally, it seems to have a slightly wider range, so preferences will differ on this point.

However, it's important to keep in mind that this is intended to be used in conjunction with a drive pedal.

As you increase distortion, the sound inevitably becomes thin and the high frequencies feel less clear.

In the case of bass, the attack can be lost when picking with a pick or pulling with a slap.

I feel like this EQ is extremely well designed to compensate for these situations while providing an additional push.

Cutting the mid-range gives a clearer, crisper impression, while boosting it gives a massive nuance that greatly increases density, rather than the distracting parts that bassists tend to cut.

There's a switch called "bright," which, when engaged, adds a slightly sparkling presence.
This setting isn't particularly flashy, so it really feels like a drive pedal focused on shaping the mid-range.

Engaging the "preamp mode" switch drastically reduces the gain.
This gives it a stronger low-gain drive pedal-like nuance, and those who enjoy unique EQs will find it easy to use with it always on.

One of the great attractions of this mode is the very pleasant compression feel it produces.

For this reason, I personally recommend turning on preamp mode and using it like a slightly distorting compressor.
Creating a drive sound with compressor settings is a popular technique among some musicians. The fact that you can still get an excellent sound when using it in this way is a major attraction of this pedal.

Overall, I felt it was a meticulously crafted masterpiece that is typical of Limetone Audio. Surprisingly, this drive pedal has never existed before, so we encourage you to try it out.

While there are slight signs of use, it is in excellent condition overall. It works perfectly.

It is meticulously inspected by GIB craftsmen before delivery.
