Black Smoker is a handmade brand launched in 2016 by BLACK CLOUD, a workshop in Azumino, Nagano, Japan.
The instruments produced by two skilled builders with a wealth of experience are supported by many professional musicians such as Shunsuke Ochi, Futoshi Sakai, and Ren Yamamoto.
This model is a 5-string OPB type of the TRAD MASTER series, which is a high-end model.
The body is made of Ash and the fingerboard is Maple.
All the painting is done with lacquer, and a beautiful aged finish is applied.
The sound and playing comfort are also in the traditional direction.
It has plenty of low end, which is useful for bass-like positioning in an ensemble.
The punchiness of the E string, despite being a 5-string bass, is also appealing in a 4-string bass kind of way.
The 5-string OPB is a spec that is not often seen in the market, but in a sense, it is less problematic than a split-coil PB, and is a very viable option.
In fact, the quality of the bass itself is also excellent.
I would play this kind of bass for a long time. I recommend it.
