Asobi Effect is a brand created by Takato, who runs the online bass school, Asobi Bass School.

A huge bass fanatic himself, he tests many things at a professional level and incorporates that knowledge into his products.

This product is a bass preamp equipped with a British-made OEP transformer.

OEP is a subsidiary of Carnhill, which is used in Neve replicas.

The built-in transformer reduces the cold sound typical of line amps, resulting in a warmer, speedier sound with a slightly compressed feel.

It gives off an impression of organic nuances.
This aspect feels like a major unique feature of this product.

Along with the high-quality sound designed using a transformer, a major attraction of this product is its well-tuned controls that will satisfy any bassist.

The controls include basic BASS and TREBLE EQ, as well as unique FAT, COLOR, and BOTTOM EQs.

The BASS can be boosted/cut up to 40Hz, and the Treble can be boosted/cut up to 4.5KHz.
The boost/cut range is ±10dB.
While some products are capable of larger boosts, this product keeps these within a practical range.
Combined with the exquisitely designed wide Q, it doesn't break down even when turned up to the maximum.
I think it's a design that is truly musician-oriented.

FAT gives the impression of a boost-only low-mid EQ.
Even when turned up, it doesn't saturate, and no unpleasant mids are produced, but rather literally gives a slightly fatter sound.
I personally like how it complements what the PB has and what the JB lacks.

COLOR gives the impression of a knob version of the COLOR switch on an MXR M-80.
It cuts specific frequency bands down to -15dB.
The Q is exquisitely narrow, so when turned up, it doesn't reduce the sense of volume or lose the important mid-range, yet still produces clearer bass.
It also seems very similar to the Bartolini XTCT's mid-cut.

The BOTTOM setting seems to be a passive high-cut tone circuit.
As you turn it up, the treble peak seems to gradually shift lower.
I think this is extremely useful, as the desired treble peak varies depending on whether you play with a pick, slap, or bass.

Sadowsky and Alleva Coppolo are known for equipping JBs with boost-only EQ and passive tone controls, and this seems to have a similar aim to the design of their products.

The power supply is specified to use 9V DC, but is internally boosted to 24V.
The circuit remains clear and distortion-free.

Designed by a bassist, this is a great product that will resonate with bassists.
I personally feel that it is particularly well-suited to basses with two pickups, such as JBs.

I recommend it.

Although there is some slight wear on the exterior, the overall condition is beautiful. It works perfectly.
