De Gier is a Dutch brand started by Sander De Gier in 1996.

He originally focused on making unique and modern bass guitars, but now his main focus is on products that push the Fender style.

The brand was originally highly regarded, but after releasing a JB-style model called BeBop, he has had his hands full with that work since it was so great.

Now, in addition to the Fender style, the lineup includes a unique model that takes on the style of Gibson.

I first met De Gier at the Guitar Summit in Germany in 2022.
At first glance, I had high expectations for the appearance of the instrument, and the moment I plucked a string, I was convinced.

I was so impressed by the overwhelmingly excellent quality that I started negotiations with them.
At first, for various reasons, it was difficult to sell them to the Japanese market, but after patiently negotiating with them, we have now started selling them. (It was really great, and I really wanted to introduce it to Japanese musicians, so I persisted for a long time.)

) There were many other brands exhibiting at Guitar Summit, and I talked with many builders.
De Gier came up several times and seemed to be widely known for its capabilities.

Some of the builders even ordered basses for themselves from De Gier.

It is a brand that has such a great reputation in Europe and the United States.
And I myself have the same maximum appreciation for them.

This model is their big hit, BeBop5.

The prototype of this model was purchased by Marcus Miller, and soon after, Richard Bona also ordered one.
It continues to be highly appreciated by real musicians like them.

The body is made of alder and the fingerboard is rosewood, a classic combination of woods.
The bridge is an original style custom-ordered from ETS, and the tuners are Hipshot.

The color is Roomboter Yellow.
A truly beautiful finish. I feel their coloring is one of the best in the world.

De Gier uses a variety of PUs depending on the individual instrument, and this particular instrument has Lollar pickups.

This PU is very powerful, and the front and rear alone are very powerful and pushy.
This nuance is not lost in the mix, and a clear, sharp, JB-like sound is obtained.

The circuit is basically passive, but with a custom Vanderkley Fatboost function.
This slightly raises the low frequencies and also lowers the impedance, which reduces the loss of high frequencies, giving the impression that the low and high frequencies are boosted at the same time.

This was quite outstanding and eye-opening.
The sound is complete when it is passive, but it seems as if adding just a little more to it gives it an even stronger punch.

All bassists will be impressed by this minimalist yet maximally effective design.

The third knob is passive tone, but the push-pull switch allows you to adjust how the tone works.
There are times when you want to round out the high frequencies and make them warmer, and other times when you want to emphasize the high mids more strongly, especially when you turn down the volume.
Normally, you would adjust these parameters by selecting a capacitor, but this function allows you to easily select either one.

The fourth knob is a rotary switch that turns Fatboost on and off.

Despite being a 5-string bass, the 3rd and 4th strings have an open nuance, while the 1st and 2nd strings have not lost their delicious midrange.
And the 5th string is full of lush notes, without losing the guttural, trebly JB feel.

This is exactly what we were looking for in a 5-string JB.
We promise you will be impressed.
