Sire gained sudden fame as the brand that released basses supervised by Marcus Miller.
The quality of the guitars and basses they manufacture is exceptionally high, earning strong support even beyond Marcus fans.
This is their new product, the Z7-4.
As you can see, it's a model inspired by the Musicman Stingray.
The neck has a lovely, vintage-inspired feel, doesn't it?
While the Z3 model also debuted, the Z7 features an additional pickup and a preamp offering more precise adjustments.
The body wood is Swamp Ash for the NT color, and Alder for the others.
The fingerboard varies by model, using Roasted Maple, Maple, or Ebony.
The neck wood also varies: Roasted Maple for the NT color, and Maple for the others.
The pickups are a Sire Premium J+MM set.
These can be freely blended using the balancer.
The preamp includes a mid-frequency control. Controls are Volume/Tone, Blender, Treble, Middle/Freq, Bass (passive/active switch).
Since the original Musicman Stingray didn't offer a passive option, many will see this as a positive feature.
The fretboard and fretwork finish is outstanding.
While expected in this price range, it's finished to a high quality that holds its own even against higher-priced models.
The nut width is 42mm, following the Musicman Stingray style and being slightly wider.
The sound delivers exactly what you'd expect: punchy, strong highs and tight lows.
Until now, there weren't many options for this type of bass, but I feel a truly excellent replica has finally arrived. Highly recommended.
