Inner Bamboo Bass Instruments (IBBI) is one of the most talented effector brands in the world.
Their SUMO STOMP series is also very well received.
The quality of their products has earned the highest praise from both professionals and amateurs alike.
Musicians who use IBBI include Naoki Koyama of m.s.t., Yutaro Iizuka of EOW, and Takumi Katsuya, who supports Kaze Fujii, YAMA, Tomoo, and others.
This model is the U-II Ultimate Compressor, highly regarded as a top quality bass compressor.
Classic opto-comp design with photo coupler.
This is a gem that strongly focuses not only on the circuit but also on the materials used, such as the use of vintage wires for internal wiring.
The power supply runs at 9V, but the voltage is boosted up to 15V inside, so there is no distortion, and you can feel a sense of spaciousness without being overly distorted.
The controls are easy to understand: Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release, Output Level, and SCEQ (Side Chain High Pass Filter).
The last control, SCEQ, may be a little confusing, but it solves the problem of too much compression being applied to certain low tones through filtering.
This problem is especially common with bass, so it is nice to have something like this that can be used to scratch that itch.
In terms of sound, it is gorgeous, with a strong sense of pushiness in the bass range and glossiness in the treble range.
In a good sense, the direction of the sound is clearly designed and not natural. (The compression itself is extremely natural.)
I would not hesitate to think of it as a compressor, or even as a preamp-like device.
This pedal is not a true bypass.
The sound when bypassed is also designed, and even if it were to be compared to a true bypass, I would not choose that.
The bypass sound, glossy and very good.
All in all, this is the highest quality compressor available today.
I recommend this excellent product with confidence.
Please give it a try.
