De Gier is a Dutch brand founded by Sander De Gier in 1996.

Originally, he focused on making unique, modern bass guitars, but now he primarily produces products emphasizing the Fender style.

The brand was originally highly acclaimed, but since releasing the BeBop, a JB-style model, its sheer excellence has left him fully occupied with that work.

Currently, in addition to Fender-style instruments, the lineup also includes unique models incorporating Gibson style.

I first encountered De Gier at the Guitar Summit held in Germany in 2022.
At first glance, I was excited by its appearance, and the moment I played it, that belief became a conviction.

Their overwhelming quality was such that we began negotiations.

At first, it was difficult to sell in Japan for various reasons, but after persistent negotiations, we are now able to begin sales. (It was so amazing that I really wanted to introduce it to Japanese musicians, so I persisted for a long time.)

Many other brands were exhibiting at Guitar Summit, and I spoke with various builders.
De Gier came up several times, and their skills seemed to be widely known.

Several builders even said they had ordered basses from De Gier.

That's how highly regarded the brand is in the West.
And I personally hold them in the highest regard as well.

This model is their smash hit, the BeBop5.

Marcus Miller purchased the prototype, and Richard Bona ordered one soon after.

It continues to be highly regarded by serious musicians like them.

The body is alder, and the fingerboard is rosewood, a classic wood combination.
The bridge is an original style custom-ordered from ETS, and the tuners are Hipshot.

The color is Metallic Mist.
This is a truly beautiful finish. I feel their coloring skills are among the best in the world.

De Gier uses a variety of pickups depending on the guitar, and this one uses Lindy Fralins.

The circuit is basically passive, but it's equipped with a custom Vanderkley Fatboost.
This slightly boosts the low frequencies and lowers the impedance, reducing high-frequency loss, giving the impression of a simultaneous boost in both the low and high frequencies.

This is quite outstanding, and it was an eye-opener for me.
The sound is already complete with the passive setting, but just adding a little to it gives it an even more powerful punch.

This minimalist yet maximally effective design will impress any bassist.

The third knob is the passive tone, and the push-pull switch allows you to adjust the tone.
When you turn it down, you'll want to round out the high frequencies to make them warmer, or, conversely, emphasize the high-mids more.
While these are normally adjusted by capacitor selection, this feature makes it easy to select either.

The fourth knob is a rotary switch that turns Fatboost on and off.

Although it's a 5-string bass, the 3rd and 4th strings have an open nuance, while the 1st and 2nd strings retain their delicious mid-range.

And the 5th string retains the thumping, treble feel that's characteristic of a JB, while remaining full of fresh intonation.

This is exactly what we were looking for in a 5-string JB.
We guarantee you'll be impressed.
